More old school pics of Kilembe…and some new pics too

Kilembe looking down the valley

I got some more old pics from Mr. John Nasmyth-Miller, one of the first police officers in Kilembe from the 1950′s.   They are really great so I thought that I would post them. The pic above is looking down into Kilembe’s valley.  The  pic below  is the end of the railhead from Kasese.  But there is no Kasese yet.  My word.

The pic below is some mineworks from the valley.

The pic below is also from the valley and it looks more or less the same today.

Kilembe's Valley

I got some pics from Dr. Edward from the hospital’s end of year party.  I’ll post them soon.

I was in Kilembe from 1966 until 1970 with my husband and family. He was working in the copper mine. We lived in Chanjojo and my son was born in the Kilembe hospital. I have often wondered how things are now and it was lovely to see the photographs you posted. I have very happy memories of my time there. We moved to Jinja in 1970 and then left Uganda in 1972 to live in Namibia.

Thanks for the nice comment. My wife and I lived there for almost a year and volunteered as surgeon and anesthesiologist at the hospital. We had a wonderful time. The place is nearly all Ugandan now. The mines are long closed but there is a cobalt company run by south africans and Australians and who live in Kasese. The valley is still beautiful and the people are lovely. I’m glad you liked the pictures.
